AI Technology with Payroll

In today's world of payroll, automation is all around us. Keeping up to date with technology and thinking differently about processes is the key with payroll automation. In this session, Barb Muellerleile, CPP, Sr Director Finance-Payroll of Panera Bread, will walk through some examples for payroll departments to embrace technology using new tools (such as AI) to eliminate manual processes.

About our Speaker:

Barb Muellerleile, CPP is the Sr Director Finance-Payroll for Panera Bread supporting over 1,000 locations, 50,000 associates in over 48 states and Canada. She has over 30 years of Payroll, Accounting, Tax, HRIS, Human Resources and Benefits experience. She received her accounting education from Minnesota State University.

Barb is a Vice President on PayrollOrg’s Board of Directors and serves on multiple PayrollOrg committees: Co-Chair for Retail Best Practices Strategic Payroll Leadership Task Force, volunteer on Certification Item Development Task Force for CPP Certification, Certification Review Panel, CHAMPS committee, Education Advisory Committee, Electronic Payment Subcommittee of the Government Relations Task Force, Hospitality Industry Subcommittee of the SPLTF, National Speakers Bureau, Congress Speaker, and Board of Contributing Writers (PAYTECH magazine).   She has previously served on the Nominations & Elections Board, Board of Advisors, CPP Certification Board, and GPMI Committee

She supported the Minnesota NorthStar Chapter for over 10 years in many roles such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Conference Committee, Government Liaison, Program Director and as a Payroll Education Speaker. She previously assisted the chapter for 10 years as an instructor for certifications classes prior to serving on the National Board. Barb currently serves on the leadership committee for the Missouri Workday User Group and previously served as chair for the Infor (Infinium)- Human Capital Management Software User Group.

Barb received the Minnesota Payroll Professional of the Year award in 2010, the NorthStar Chapter Ambassador Award in 2012 and 2013, the PayrollORG (APA) Meritorious Service Award in 2014 and the PayrollORG Special Recognition Award in 2022. In addition, she has received the “Mother Bread Award” at Panera for outstanding Service.

Barb has worked with large company payrolls of multiple Federal ID numbers, serving the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. She has managed multiple HRIS/Payroll implementations, payroll tax reporting, 100+ acquisitions (Payroll, HR, and Benefits) and Payroll General Ledger Accounting. She has benefits experience managing health and welfare plans, partnering with multiple vendors, benefit networks and plan design, supporting benefit meetings and all aspects of benefits. Additionally, she has had Human Resources and Compliance responsibility throughout her career.
